We reopen tomorrow – and can’t wait to see you!

We are open tomorrow, following completion of the recent work on our roof.

The first phase of a long-awaited project to replace our asbestos roof has been completed and we are excited to start welcoming visitors again from tomorrow.

The GVC closed to visitors on February 12 to have the works completed. It was the first phase of a project to replace the Museum’s asbestos roof. We now have 23% of the roof completed. This work was made possible by a generous grant from the Wellington Shire Council, allocated from funds provided by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Along with our new roof, we also have two new exhibitions – British Sports Cars and Italian Cars and Bikes.

Cars on show include a 1959 MGA Twin-Cam and a 1928 Fiat Piccola 509A.

Launched in 1955, the MGA was the first ‘modern’ MG. It upheld the company’s traditional values of sports performance and handling. The Twin-Cam version, exhibited by Paul Vermont, president of the Victoria MG Club, is very rare. Only 2111 MGA Twin-Cams were produced and their featured engine wasn’t fitted in any other vehicles.

Based on the B series cylinder block and bored out to 75.4mm, the engine has a capacity of 1588cc.

John Ward’s 1928 Fiat Piccola 509A is an imported ‘special’ model. John rescued it from underneath a tree, where it had sat since 1959, beaten by the sun, wind and rain.

The Fiat was “put out to pasture” when required parts weren’t available to repair it. John obtained the original vehicle plans from Fiat in Italy and restored the car to concourse condition.

There are always plenty of reasons to visit the Gippsland Vehicle Collection. Come and say hi when we reopen this Saturday, or schedule your visit for Sunday 1 May when we hold our annual Swap Meet. Or, come anytime that suits you! We are open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10am – 4pm, and every day in the school holidays!

All patrons of the GVC and its events must show their double vaccination certificate.
